A traditional home energy audit uses a blower door, thermal camera, and combustion analyzer to produce a written diagnostic report. Our free energy assessment is a visual walkthrough by a certified advisor focused on giving you a prioritized plan with real pricing and Efficiency Maine rebates deducted upfront. We still use blower door testing and thermal imaging, but as part of the actual work: a baseline test at the start of the job, thermal imaging to target specific leaks while we seal them, and a verification test at the end to prove the improvement. You get the benefit of the testing where it counts.
Most Maine contractors charge $300 to $500 for a traditional home energy audit. Efficiency Maine rebates up to $400 of that cost, leaving about $100 out of pocket. Horizon Homes offers a free energy assessment instead, with no diagnostic equipment and no obligation. You get a thorough walkthrough and a clear plan, and if you move forward we handle the rebate paperwork and deduct the rebate from your invoice upfront.
A typical assessment takes about an hour. We walk through your entire home, look at your insulation, air sealing, heating system, and comfort issues, and take the time to answer your questions. No equipment, no disruption. We ask that you or another adult be home during the walkthrough.
Rebates vary based on the type of work and your household income. Heat pump rebates can reach up to $9,000, and insulation/air sealing rebates up to $8,000. Many homeowners offset 40–60% of total project costs through Efficiency Maine rebates. We'll identify every rebate you qualify for during your assessment.
No special preparation is needed. We just ask that you're home during the assessment and that we have access to your attic, basement, and mechanical systems. If you have recent energy bills handy, that's helpful but not required.
